Rihanna, Queen of the Red Carpet, Will Host the 2018 Met Gala

Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour, has tapped the undisputed champion of the red carpet, Rihanna, to host the 2018 Met Gala.

The announcement came from Vogue this morning. The theme for next year’s star-studded event (officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) will be “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” which Rihanna will be hosting alongside Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney.

Frankly, I’d hate to be set up co-hosting next to Rihanna—how the hell do you even stand next to her without looking like a handmaiden? Madam Versace and Madam Clooney, good luck and Godspeed.

Now back to Rihanna.

The singer, humanitarian, fashion powerhouse, beauty mogul and patron saint of highlighted cheekbones everywhere didn’t invent the red carpet, but you wouldn’t know it. Rihanna has attended the Met Gala seven times and performed twice, serving iconic looks like her 2015 Guo Pei gown (come through, yolk yellow!) and last year’s Comme des Garçons surreal Rei Kawakubo piece (shown below, and in the main image above).
