This School Counselor Got The Surprise Of A Lifetime When Michelle Obama Called Her Phone

The 2018 School Counselor of the Year received a joyful surprise this week when she received a congratulatory phone call from former first lady Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama shared a video of the call in a tweet Thursday, which shows Kirsten Perry of Chicago’s Lawndale Community Academy picking up the phone.

“Hi, Kirsten,” a familiar voice answers. “This is Michelle Obama. How are you?”

Perry, who was named the 2018 School Counselor of the Year was expecting a call from someone else. Not only did Obama surprise Perry with the phone call, but the nationally-recognized counselor also found out that the former First Lady would be introducing her at gala in Washington D.C. next week.

“We’re gonna get a chance to spend a little time together,” Obama said.

Perry, who has been a school counselor for six years, was picked out of six finalists for her “ ability to create systemic change within the profession through significant leadership, collaboration and advocacy,” according to the American School Counselor Association.
