Gina Prince-Bythewood To Direct Marvel’s Silver & Black
The Marvel Universe will soon meld with the mind and direction of Gina Prince-Bythewood, who is set to direct the upcoming adaptation of Spider-Man spinoff Silver & Black.
Prince-Bythewood, who first made her mark with the endearing The Secret Life of Bees and most recently co-directed Fox’s Shots Fired, will tackle the story of Silver Sable and Black Cat. This movie is set to follow Venom, which also is an offshoot of the main Spider-Man narrative.
What’s cool about this is that she is joining that rare, yet growing, list of women tapped to oversee such major superhero projects. She’s also the first black woman to direct a superhero film. In terms of other diversity amongst super hero movie directors, Ryan Coogler, who is black, is set to helm Black Panther and Patty Jenkins, a white woman, directed Wonder Woman.
The film will be based on Marvel’s Spider-Man universe but will not actually feature Spidey.
