Issa Rae will make her film debut in upcoming drama ‘The Hate U Give’

Season 3 of Insecure is not the only thing Issa Rae has in the works.

The star and creator of the hit HBO comedy will reportedly make her big-screen debut opposite Amandla Stenberg in the upcoming drama The Hate U Give.

According to Variety, the movie is adapted from the Angela Thomas novel of the same name.

The story centers around a 16-year-old girl named “Starr” (Stenberg) who grew up in poverty but now attends a prep school in the suburbs. Starr’s two worlds collide when she sees her unarmed best friend shot down by police.

Rae will play the role of “April,” an activist who helps Starr to discover how she can make her voice heard….
