How Minda Harts Is Helping Black Women Close The Pay Gap For Good

As the future of work evolves, one labor flaw stubbornly persists. That flaw is the gender pay gap, or the income dynamic where women, on average, make only about $0.80 for every $1 their male white counterpart makes in salary. If current wage trends continue, it might take until 2059 for pay parity to be achieved, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. But this isn’t the whole story for all women. When equal pay is measured for women of color, the outlook is even bleaker. Hispanic or Latinx women might have to wait until 2224, and black women’s equal pay might arrive at 2119, when measured against their white male coworkers.

But here’s why those numbers continue to motivate and irritate me: they assume we won’t find an accelerant that could speed up the level setting of pay. It also assumes smart corporations won’t be motivated to create inclusive cultures that adapt with the  …
