Viola Davis Unveils Her New Book ‘Corduroy Takes A Bow,’ A Sequel To The Classic Children’s Book

The book is set to hit shelves in time for the original “Corduroy’s” 50th anniversary.

Legendary actress and producer Viola Davis is adding children’s book author to her resume.

People reports the first black actress to win Tony, Emmy and Oscar awards has written her first book, a sequel to the bestselling Corduroy.

Growing up in poverty in Rhode Island, Corduroy (first published in 1968) was one thing Davis connected to during her difficult childhood.

Why? Because of the thing we continue to push for: representation. The teddy bear’s friend, Lisa, is a black girl.

The book is such an inspiration to Davis, she decided to write a continuation of the story, Corduroy Takes A Bow

“When I was a little girl, it wasn’t often that I found myself reflected in the pages of a book,” Davis told People. “Corduroy was an exception, and I adored flipping through it. To be able to introduce a new generation, including my daughter, to this character that was so special to me in my childhood is an incredible honor.”
