Lupita Nyong’o Covers Vogue For The Fourth Time

Lupita Nyong’o, one of the stars of next year’s highly anticipated “Black Panther” film, is on the January 2018 cover of Vogue. This marks the fourth time the Mexican-born African beauty has graced the face of the mag.

While standing in a tree pose on a surfboard, the Oscar winner dons a sparkly, silver-colored bodysuit with a waist-cinching mermaid-inspired sarong. Lupita serves such authoritative eyes she makes you think she calmed the waters herself, right before emerging from them.

The 34-year-old first appeared on Vogue for the July 2014 issue. Her second appearance was on the October 2015 issue, and her third was last year, on the October 2016 issue.

Vogue is still considered the bible of the fashion and beauty world so seeing Lupita and other celebrities of African descent like Rihanna and Beyoncé grace their covers is still a big deal. Beverly Johnson was the first Black woman on Vogue‘s cover in 1975, just 42 years ago. And when Lupita made her debut on its cover in 2014, she was only the ninth Black woman to do so at the time.

As they get their act together, I will still be picking up my copy of Vogue, only because Lupita will be on it. And I can’t wait to comb through its pages to find out whether she shared some behind-the-scenes Black-tastic shenanigans from the set of “Black Panther.” Until then, I’ll be watching the …
