When a fan took to Twitter to let people know that Ava DuVernay was in town, and she was dying to meet the A Wrinkle in Time director, Aunty Ava blessed her day by not only replying but also agreeing to a photo-op.

But the 46-year-old has been true to looking out for her folk. In February, DuVernay partnered with Los Angeles’ mayor and producer Dan Lin to launch an initiative to fund 500 internships for women, people of color and those who come from low-income households ..
